Great Balls of Fur!

they gather under couches and chairs

little balls composed of cat hairs

people everywhere concur

all pet homes have balls of fur

the only way to make them go away

is to vacuum everyday

if you love animals that’s okay

and a very small price to pay

Writing Proper Haiku

writing proper haiku

is not an easy thing to do

it takes narrative skills

and editing with no frills

the ability to condense

three lines that make sense

into English to tell a tale

like the holy grail

where, to our surprise

was nothing more than lies

the use of juxtaposition

honoring tradition

in modern haiku

is still the proper thing to do

(Writer’s note: either this poem stunk to high heaven, or it had the worst title I ever gave a poem! My apologies. Guess it was my time to write a clinker! I’ll do my best not to repeat.)

Robots Day is Here

todays robots are made for walking

and that’s just what they’ll do

watch out, or they’ll walk all over you

to the tune of

These Boots are Made for Walking

by old blue eye’s daughter

Nancy Sinatra’s one big hit

about a woman in a snit

meanwhile

the day of the robots is here

they’re going to take your job

and they’re going to guzzle your beer

I’m really sorry to say

The Robots Day is here to stay

The Season of the Bear

there’s a big bear out there

stalking the stock market

and giving everyone a scare

financial wizards are in despair

millionaires are pulling out their hair

small investors fear losing their share

and there’s financial chaos everywhere

because it’s the season of the bear!

Silent Giants

The California Coast is the host for redwood trees

silent giants that have stood for centuries

massive groves form God’s church

the lofty limbs an eagle’s perch

they stretch hundreds of feet into the sky

and when the wind blows you hear them sigh

these ancient guardians of times gone by

wait silently

and majestically

earth’s tallest tree

nature’s dynasty

waiting for discovery

PC Desk Duty

punching my own time clock every day

when I turn on my PC

and decide what to say

during my self-imposed desk duty

my thoughts trickle across the screen

opinions and images flow

during this daily routine

I never really know

the end result unforeseen

the eventual goal

to write and hope it’ll be seen
