A Bird Jubilee

looking up at a beautiful blue sky

filled with flocks of busy birds

hearing an Orioles clear cry

a Veery Thrush’s sweet melody nearby

their acrobats in the sky

waterfall notes of tiny Wrens

flocks of feathered friends

Grosbeak’s melodic tones

White Geese’s harsh baritones

riding the winds currents

and the cross currents

sparrows sing joyfully

in a bird led jubilee

Flight

Icarus flew too close to the sun and his wings melted, but mankind’s desire to fly through the ages withstood mythologies warning. Tales of the old gods slipped into oblivion and were translated into technology… opening the door for new gods to worship.

All powerful Thoth, the Ibis God, gave way to airplanes and spaceships…the spawn of the transformation and worshipped by mortals who love flight. The natural world shifted and birds (god’s messengers) shared the skies with machines.

Mankind’s lust for flight takes each spaceship further into the cosmos in an endless search for the furthest limits of universes.

The BB Gun

Christmas morning.

Eight-year old Tony couldn’t wait to go outside and play with his favorite present, a BB gun. Mom and Dad gave him a quick lecture about gun safety. After getting dressed he grabbed the cardboard target and BB gun on his way out to the backyard.

He set the target up on a tree and had fun shooting at it for an hour before his eyes wandered around looking for other targets.

A bird. Without thinking he shot it; dropped the gun, and ran over to it. Hot tears ran down his eyes as he buried the sparrow.
