Animal Philosophy

arrogant humans have a tendency

to ignore animal philosophy

which is rooted in nature

and it’s abundancy

where there’s no need

for greed

no unwritten law

degreed

no political party to follow

no lies to swallow

with animal philosophy

you’re free

to live in harmony

A Mental Wall

it’s too easy to build a mental wall

a barrier to all things big and small

when we get carried away with ideology

and the politics of the day

communication is cornered by fear

when a person believes everything they hear

tossing logic aside to build a mental wall

has been many a man and woman’s downfall

a wall keeps knowledge out

leaving the builder with doubt

about what is right or wrong

and what’s weak and what’s strong

so don’t burden your brain

with barriers that could drive you insane

Keep ’em Laughing

comedians, pranksters, jokers

and midnight tokers

keep us laughing

when we want to cry

even when we get a black eye

because the world goes around

with the laughter from a clown

worries go away

after a tough day

watching purveyors of mirth

makes life easier on this earth

as long as we keep clapping

they’ll keep us laughing

Easy Glider

riding the wind like a bird

the ground far below blurred

but it’s no deterrent

for the easy glider riding the wind’s calm current

with a view of the beautiful world below

he knows he can land where he wants to go

the easy glider cruises airways defying death

knowing it could be his last breath

defiantly setting aside fear

high in the atmosphere

to experience what few others see

that high altitude beauty

Ballad of Hotfoot and Thunder Thighs

there’s a ballad about two crazy guys

called Hotfoot and Thunder Thighs

who made people roar with laughter

and were often sought after

for their ability to make you laugh or cry

their very presence could electrify

they traveled on country trails

and loved to tell funny tales

both free as could be

the world their marquee

these guys were something to see

In Retrospect

I think we can all agree

that hindsight is 20-20

the ability

to look back at history

and change it

is God’s domain

a power not found

in the human brain

in retrospect

there’s no re-does

a fact we need to accept

When No One Was Looking

he stood amidst the ruins of the city

a warrior raised with no pity

when no one was looking

a tear welled up in his eye

for all the men who had to die

she was as tough as could be

a corporate climber making money

but when no one was looking

she would cry

tired of being the bad “guy”

he was a professional fighter

who wanted to be a writer

when no one was looking

he proved he had what it took

and wrote a book
